Norway has the potential of becoming a leading hub for technological advances in ammonia- and hydrogen production as well as zero emission shipping. The success in developing battery driven ferries in the norwegian ferry network shows how new technologies can be scaled up when both the value chain and the market is developed in tandem. Batteries is not suitable for long distance travel, so as a seafaring nation, we have to take a step further. Requiring zero emissions on Norwegian waters, in combination with financial support for investments in shipbuilding and infrastructure, will help speed up this shift for the Norwegian shipping industry.
