Construction and Buildings
Better utilization of the buildings we already have and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions are the most important measures for a greener construction and building sector.

The construction sector accounts for around 40% of global energy consumption and about 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The UN IPCC highlights that much of today’s building stock will still be in use in 2050, making the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing buildings crucial measures for emission reduction.
Skift believes that the largest shifts in this sector are to make better use of existing buildings and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in rehabilitation, upgrading and new construction.
The industry is already making progress by setting ambitious goals and identifying solutions to significantly reduce emissions while developing innovative approaches to sustainability. Skift - Business Climate Leaders provides a valuable network for collaboration across a complex value chain to accelerate these efforts.
Skift's ambition is to achieve a climate-positive construction and and building value chain by 2050. This vision spans the entire lifecycle - from land use and construction processes to material production and transport, all the way to building utilization
